Carrying Tradition . (multi-media)
My Genesis NFT, Carrying Tradition is a singular, photo animation with sound which captures the essence of the original photo and video series within one piece.
The photography was shot with 4x5 Fuji film on a large format camera. The original series was part of my solo show ‘Carrying Tradition’ exhibited in Miami, FL, and the photograph in this animation was exhibited at Exit Art gallery in New York, as well as featured in Artforum magazine. Sound was designed mixing various recordings.
This work reflects on the inability to psychologically and unconsciously escape traditional cultural mores when they are heavily rooted in one’s background. It speaks of the hierarchy of power and gender roles that have prevailed in patriarchal societies for centuries, with women carrying the burden and weight of doctrines and oppressive systems that restrain her autonomy and freedom.
